How much does a dyslexia assessment cost?

A dyslexia assessment  and report with Simply Thrive costs £495 (including VAT), and this is payable prior to the assessment.  There may be extra costs involved for a face to face assessment. Payment is taken via a secure payment link in advance of the assessment, or we can take payment for this over the phone.

Is Dyslexia a hidden disability?

People with dyslexia are often unaware that they have a disability. It’s called “hidden” because you can’t see it, but then again most people don’t know how to diagnose themselves with dyslexia.

Is Dyslexia a disability?

The Equality Act 2010 defines a disability as “a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on the ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities”. Therefore, as dyslexia is a lifelong condition and has a significant impact on a person’s day-to-day life, it meets the criteria of a disability and is covered by The Equality Act 2010.

Does dyslexia affect speech too or just reading abilities?

Dyslexia can affect both reading and speaking abilities. One of the first signs of dyslexia in children is delayed speech development.

Can you have dyslexia with numbers?

Mathematics is a subject that many people find difficult to understand, but there is a specific learning difficulty that involves particular trouble with numbers. Dyscalculia makes all numbers seem confusing, which can lead to trouble with everything from addition and subtraction in school lessons to more complex concepts like finance or economics.

What does a dyslexic person see?

Dyslexia is a complex condition with many symptoms and each dyslexic person is different. Some people see letters and numbers in different orders or upside down while others have trouble distinguishing between similar sounding words such as “ee” versus “a”. There are other cases in which letters may appear  bunched together, or jumbled and out of order.

Can you outgrow dyslexia?

No, dyslexia does not go away and you cannot outgrow it. However, with early diagnosis and the correct support put in place, dyslexia can be very well managed.

Can trauma cause dyslexia?

Trauma can cause a wide range of symptoms and cognitive disabilities. Trauma Dyslexia, also commonly referred to as acquired dyslexia, can develop after a person has experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI), such as a fall from a ladder, a car accident, a sports injury, etc. Trauma Dyslexia can also result after suffering from a stroke or a concussion. While it can affect anyone, Trauma Dyslexia is more often seen in adults than children.

Can you develop dyslexia later in life?

It is possible to develop dyslexia later in life. More often than not this is due to a traumatic brain injury.
